Grimsthorpe CastleGrimsthorpe Castle, is just 2 miles away from Maycroft Cottage. It has been the home of the Willoughby de Eresby family since 1516, and is just one of the many nearby attractions. With over 800 years of history to be uncovered, its beautiful formal gardens, parkland, deer herd and abundance of wildlife including "Red Kites" that have recently started nesting within the grounds.
The Castle hosts many events throughout the year, from Siberian Husky Racing, Horse Shows, Antiques and Collectors Fair. The castle and tea-room are open from April to September. A new service for 2009 is "Cycle Hire" which allows visitors to explore several cycle trails within the park.

A short car journey will let you explore the delights of some of the other historic houses and castles nearby, Burghley House, the largesr and grandest house of the Elizabethan age. home to the International Burghley Horse Trials and the setting for many TV drama's and films including 'Pride and Prejudice'
The Reading Room at folkinghamBelton House and Woolsthorpe Manor the birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton, the brick built keep of Tattershall Castle, are all National Trust Properties.

Not to be missed are the numerous and delightful small market towns and picturesque stone built villages which characterise this region, these include, The Deepings, Castle and Little Bytham, Witham on the Hill, Billingborough, Irnham, Folkingham, and Corby Glen which celebrates the annual Sheep Fair in October each year.
