The Cathedrals of Lincoln and Peterborough are within easy reach by car. Lincoln Cathedral is one of the finest medieval buildings in Europe, which towers above the city of Lincoln, a prominent landmark for miles around. Although not in Lincolnshire, Peterborough Cathedral is just a short drive away and is probably one of the most underated Cathedrals in the country. Peteborough was formerly known as Medehampstead and there has been a house of worship on the same ground since 655AD .
The Cathedral has some of the best preserved architectural lines of Norman workmanship in the UK. With its painted 12th century, longest surviving wooden ceiling in Europe.
Two queens were buried in here, Katherine of Aragon’s grave is in the North Aisle near the High Altar, whilst Mary Queen of Scots was buried on the opposite side of the altar, though her grave is now empty (she was re-buried in Westminster in 1612)
Within easy distance are the towns of Stamford, one of the finest Georgian towns in the country and the setting for TV drama "Middlemarch" and Film "Pride and Prejudice". Grantham the birthplace of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Sleaford, Boston, Nottingham, Oakham and, Melton Mowbray all have their own characteristics and worth exploring.
The north Norfolk and east Lincolnshire Coasts have some of the best unspoilt beaches within easy reach.
